  1. Get lots and lots of fresh air. Open the windows in your house or go out for a walk to get a fresh supply of oxygen – your brain will thank you. Fresh air helps you clear your mind and concentrate on nature’s beauty.
  2. Exercise. As simple as it sounds, many people get no exercise whatsoever and feel depressed. As the saying goes, exercise makes you look healthier and feel happier. Try it out, honestly! Exercise always takes your mind off things and helps you with every aspect of your life.
  3. Light (and sunlight) is good for you and helps battle depression. During the winter, the days are gloomy, contributing to depression. Keep your house lighted thoroughly, and you will see how quickly your mood will shift for the better. Go outside when it’s sunny – not only does it help battle depression, but you also get plenty of vitamin D that you might be lacking.
  4. Use your imagination. Your brain is a powerful tool (powerful enough to make your negative thoughts put you in depression), so the same brain has the capability of transforming your mind for the better. Use your imagination to try perhaps to visualize your lifelong dreams. That’s incredibly powerful, and it always helps me stay focused and goal-oriented. As your imagination grows and you can see yourself as you want yourself to be, your depression will diminish because you know your dreams CAN come true.
  5. Set goals. As mentioned previously, imagination helps visualize those goals, but you have to set achievable goals and strive for them! Drifting in life with no goals will only fuel your depression. Set a goal, no matter how small. You will feel great after achieving it and feel better as you’re moving towards it. As for which goals to set, think about which problems you need to solve, what is making you unhappy – and work towards them.
  6. Take action, and don’t let procrastination only feed your depression stronger and stronger. Sitting around doing nothing increases hopelessness and depression. Action helps lift you in a more positive frame, while indecision leads to no action and more depression. Take action right this moment, don’t wait for tomorrow… Please.
  7. Expressing your emotions is a great way to cope with depression. Sharing your feelings with your friends will decrease depression. Maybe you will get some advice from a friend who suffered from depression prior.
  8. Write about your day. Start a journal and record how you feel and act throughout the day. Don’t write only about the pain and the positive things you notice – the changes and how you’re not giving up. It’s a great way to cope with depression.
  9. Read books, as many motivational books out there can truly change your life around.
  10. Music is such a powerful tool that it can instantly alter your mood. Inspiring music does it for many people, and you should give it a try. When you feel stressed or angry, slip on your headphones and enter the world of relaxation as the music passes through your mind and relaxes the muscles in your body.
